Panchakarma is a rejuvenating and intensely purifying detoxification protocol advised in Ayurveda for cleansing the body, mind, and consciousness.

Based on Ayurvedic concepts, each person is an individual manifestation of the five fundamental elements – Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth.

The functional and structural aspects of this individual manifestation are expressed in terms of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha (known as tridoshas) established by the combination of these elements in varying percentages.

A person’s constitution of body and mind from birth is influenced by the proportion of these doshas in him known as his ‘Prakriti’ [innate constitution].

When the original constitution is altered by natural or unnatural influences and events, it results in dysfunction and derangement, which eventually leads to sicknesses. In Ayurveda, this altered state of Prakriti is referred to as ‘Vikruti’.

Panchakarma is an integral part of the treatment approach in Ayurveda to regain and recover one Prakriti from the state of Vikruti.

Each person receives panchakarma, taking into account the extent of Vikruti and the afflictions caused by it. Hence it requires detailed evaluation and close supervision.

Because it ensures the patient’s short-term as well as long-term profound well-being, panchakarma treatment is highly regarded by master healers, as a prime healing strategy.

Ayurveda helps you to make the right decisions about your nutrition, lifestyle, and activities in order to restore harmony in your body, mind, and consciousness and fight against sickness.

Different Phases of Panchakarma

Poorva Karma

This is the preliminary phase where your body is prepared to facilitate the release of toxins that have built up over the years. In this first step, specific herbs processed in ghee/oil are administered every day in increasing dosage until the body releases the accumulated toxins into channels of elimination. Oil Massages followed by Svedana [Sudation] are administered to encourage the passage of toxins to the channels.

Pradhana Karma

This is the Panchakarma, a five-fold process that is tailored to the needs, and abilities of the digestive system, immune system, and other characteristics of each person. Only an experienced Ayurvedic expert can guide you through these potent procedures.

The five cleansing therapies are

  • Vamana
  • Virechana
  • Nasya
  • Vasti
  • Raktamokshana

Thorough cleansing of the human body’s accumulated toxins is facilitated by this treatment.

Paschat Karma

This is the post-procedural phase where the body is eased back and settled to normalcy after inducing the expulsion of toxins through the above-mentioned means. Each of the five karmas has individual Paschat karmas to follow to complete the process.

Your body and mind will feel notably lighter, more refreshed and relaxed upon completing this complex but awesome healing strategy.
